It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.
Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.
Kayak Shipments
We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.
If we hand deliver it
Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.
If it ships LTL freight
Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.
What we cover
Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.
Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.
Description
The Passport 10.5 R is the cheapest way into a real Hobie, and the word real is doing work there. It runs a genuine MirageDrive, not a simplified version, on a hull Hobie builds to the same standard as the expensive boats.
Ten and a half feet, 34 inches wide, 65 lbs fitted, 325 lbs of capacity. Short and light enough that storage and loading stop being the reason you do not go.
The drive is the MirageDrive GT with Glide Technology and Kick-Up Fins. Glide Technology is Hobie’s roller bearings at the friction points, which they describe as reducing resistance for a smoother ride. The Kick-Up fins retract on impact the same way they do on the flagship boats.
The seat is a suspended mesh aluminum frame. Two rod holders, two accessory mounting tracks, an 8 inch twist and seal hatch, bow and stern cargo with bungee, a vertical accessory tube for a sail or bimini, and an aluminum two-piece paddle all come with it.

Passport 10.5 R or Passport 12 R?
A foot and a half of hull. The Hobie Passport 12 R carries 400 lbs against this boat’s 325, tracks better, and adds an EVA standing platform, H-Track mounts, a transducer cavity and Power-Pole mounting. This one is 8 lbs lighter and shorter to store. Small water and tight storage go to the 10.5.
Is the Passport a lesser Hobie?
It is a simpler one, not a worse one. You get a genuine MirageDrive GT, a real rotomolded hull and the same Kick-Up fin technology. What you give up against an Hobie Outback is the fishing rigging: no H-Rail, no Guardian transducer shield, fewer mounting points.
What is the MirageDrive GT?
It is the drive Hobie fits to the Passport and iTrek boats. Hobie pairs it with Glide Technology, which they describe as "roller bearings at key friction points reduce resistance for a smooth and efficient ride", and with Kick-Up Fins. Hobie publishes no side-by-side comparison between the GT and the MirageDrive 180, so we are not going to make one up. What are Kick-Up Fins?
Fins that retract by themselves on impact. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back when it hits something and drops again once you are past.
Can I stand up in it?
Hobie does not list a standing platform on this model and does not market it as a standing boat, so we will not tell you it is one. Thirty-four inches of beam is stable to sit and fish from. If standing matters, look at the Hobie Passport 12 R.
Will it fish?
Yes, seated. Two rod holders and two accessory tracks come standard. It is a recreational hull that fishes rather than a dedicated fishing platform.
Is 325 lbs enough capacity?
Check it against your weight plus gear. A 220 lb paddler with a small cooler and a rod is fine. If you are heavier or you like to carry a lot, the 12 R or the Compass gives you more headroom.
Does it come with a paddle?
Yes, an aluminum two-piece. You pedal most of the time, but you want it aboard for the shallows.
What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?
Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel.
Do I need a life jacket with it?
Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III cut thin through the back.
How long is the Hobie warranty?
Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.
Who handles a warranty claim?
Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.
What voids coverage?
Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.
How does the Hobie Passport 10.5 R ship?
Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate.
