Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Old Town Canoe and Kayak Warranty

  • Hull and deck: Covered for the lifetime of the boat from the original purchase date. Blemished boats carry 5 years.
  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Not covered

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

The Sportsman AutoPilot 136 is the biggest boat Old Town builds in this line and the one with the most capacity of anything we stock from them. Thirteen feet six inches, 660 lbs Total Weight Capacity and 502 lbs Usable Weight Capacity, with the same 45 lb thrust Minn Kota and Spot-Lock as the 120.

Length is what you are buying. A 13 ft 6 in hull carries speed between spots, holds a line in wind, and takes chop that makes a shorter boat unpleasant. Combined with Spot-Lock it turns big reservoirs and coastal water into a one-angler operation.

Five hundred and two pounds of Usable Weight Capacity means a heavy angler, a lithium battery, a loaded crate, a cooler and a second rod tube all go at once and you are still under the number. Four 18 in tracks, four rod holders, shallow water anchor mount, pre-drilled wire ports.

Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136 Questions, Answered

AutoPilot 136 or AutoPilot 120?

Capacity and water. The 136 carries 102 lbs more total and rides better in chop. The Sportsman AutoPilot 120 is 6 lbs lighter, 18 inches shorter, easier to store and less money. Same motor and same Spot-Lock in both, so this is a hull decision, not a feature decision.

What is Spot-Lock?

GPS position holding. The motor makes its own small corrections to keep the boat on a fixed point while wind and current push against it. You get to fight a fish or retie without losing your spot.

Does it include a battery?

No. The pre-wired box takes a 12V deep cycle, Group 27 or smaller, lithium or sealed lead-acid.

How much can I actually load?

502 lbs of Usable Weight Capacity from a 660 lb Total Weight Capacity. Your battery comes out of that. This is the boat to buy if capacity is what has been limiting you.

Can one person move it?

Not easily. 158 lbs assembled, 124 lbs with the console, battery box and seat pulled, and 13 ft 6 in of length to manage. Plan on a trailer, a cart, or a second person.

Is it saltwater safe?

The motor is saltwater-ready. Rinse the motor, rudder and tracks with fresh water after every salt trip.

How long is the motor covered?

Two years on the motor drive. The hull is separate and runs limited lifetime. Reconditioned drives carry one year.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin back so it works with the seat.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. The electric motor drive is covered for 2 years. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

How does the Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136 ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
