Shipping Damage Free Guarantee
Accessory Shipments
Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.
It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.
Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.
Kayak Shipments
We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.
If we hand deliver it
Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.
If it ships LTL freight
Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.
What we cover
Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.
Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The NRS Chinook is the fishing life jacket most kayak anglers end up in, and the reason is the back. A mesh lower back sits clear of a high-back kayak seat instead of bunching against it, so the vest stays put and you stay cooler on a July afternoon.
NRS puts it plainly: this is more than a safety aid. Seven front pockets take everything from a small tackle box down to tippet. A coil tool retractor clips on line snips or forceps. There are rod holder loops, a net attachment D-ring, a strobe holder loop, more gear D-rings and loops, and a knife lash tab sized for a river knife like the NRS Neko Blunt Knife.
Flotation is 16.5 lbs, USCG Type III, in soft PlushFIT foam that conforms to your body rather than sitting on it like a board. Eight adjustment points — four at the sides, two at the shoulders, two at the waist — mean you dial the fit once and forget it.
This is the jacket you wear all day because you forget you have it on. That is the only kind worth owning.

Key Features
- Mesh Lower Back: Clears a high-back kayak seat instead of fighting it, and vents heat on hot days. This is the feature that makes it a kayak fishing PFD rather than a PFD you fish in.
- Seven Front Pockets: Small tackle boxes, tippet, leader, whatever you reach for most. All of it on your chest instead of behind you in a crate.
- Integrated Rod Holder Loops: Park a rod on your chest to re-tie or unhook without setting it down.
- Coil Tool Retractor: Clip on line snips or forceps and they come back to you every time.
- Net D-Ring and Strobe Loop: Dedicated attachment for a landing net and for a safety strobe, plus more gear D-rings and loops.
- Knife Lash Tab: Sized for a river knife, so a blade rides where you can reach it one-handed.
- Soft PlushFIT Foam: Conforms to your body instead of sitting on it. This is why you can wear it all day.
- Eight Adjustment Points: Four side, two shoulder, two waist. Dial it in once.
- 16.5 lbs of Flotation: USCG Type III, medium profile — enough float without the bulk that stops you casting.
NRS Chinook Questions, Answered
Will it work with my high-back kayak seat?
That is the whole design. The lower back is mesh instead of foam, so it sits clear of a high seat back rather than riding up and pushing the vest forward. If you have ever given up on a PFD because it fought your seat, this is the fix.
What size do I need?
We stock S/M, L/XL and XXL. NRS sizes the Chinook by chest measurement, so measure around the widest part of your chest with a soft tape before you order. If you land between two sizes or want the exact range for a size, call us at (615) 696-7887 and we will check it for you rather than guess.
Is seven pockets actually useful, or just marketing?
Useful, if you fish out of them. The point is that the tackle you change most often lives on your chest instead of in a crate behind your seat, which on a kayak means not turning around, not reaching blind and not unbalancing the boat.
Can I mount a knife on it?
Yes. There is a dedicated knife lash tab. The NRS Neko Blunt Knife clips to it and deploys one-handed, which is what you want if you are ever wrapped in line or anchor rope.
Is a Type III enough for moving water?
Type III is the standard rating for paddling PFDs and it is what the Chinook carries, with 16.5 lbs of flotation. It is built for lakes, rivers and inshore fishing. For swiftwater rescue work you want a Type V rescue vest with a harness instead.
Does it get hot?
Less than a solid-back jacket. The mesh lower back is there for ventilation as much as for seat clearance, which is the difference between wearing it and leaving it on the deck in August — and the one on the deck saves nobody.
How does it ship?
Ships parcel, nationwide. It packs down small enough to box, so it goes out as a standard ground shipment.
A PFD does no good if you do not wear it at all times. If a PFD is not comfortable, you are less likely to wear it. The Chinook from NRS is a very comfortable PFD. It is so comfortable I often forget I am wearing it. The pockets are very useful for managing items you need to keep close at hand. There are also plenty of attachment points for things like clippers, whistles and other tools. This PFD is popular for a reason. I highly recommend it.
