Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Old Town Canoe and Kayak Warranty

Boats, Drives and Accessories

  • Hull and deck: Covered for the lifetime of the boat from the original purchase date. Blemished boats carry 5 years.
  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Not covered

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

Read the full Old Town warranty policy.

The Sportsman 120 is the paddle boat in Old Town's fishing line, and it is the one most anglers should look at first. Twelve feet of DoubleU hull under a 33.5 inch beam gives you a platform you can stand and cast from without a drive unit, a battery or a service schedule.

At 85 lbs it is the lightest of the sit-on-top Sportsman hulls. You can car-top it, and one person can get it off a rack and down to the water. That matters more than people expect once a boat crosses 100 lbs.

Total Weight Capacity is 500 lbs, with 415 lbs of Usable Weight Capacity left after the boat. That is enough for a big angler, a loaded crate, a battery and a day of gear. It is rudder compatible if you want to add one later. Rotomolded in Maine.

Specifications

  • Removable Seat Weight: 6 lbs
  • Total Weight Capacity: 500 lbs
  • Usable Weight Capacity: 415 lbs

Key Features

  • DoubleU Hull: Two shallow keel lines instead of one. It runs quiet and it holds you steady enough to fish standing up.
  • Element Seating System: Adjustable and breathable, with high and low positions and UV-resistant fabric. It lifts out for transport.
  • Two 18 in Accessory Tracks: Forward-hull tracks take a fish finder, rod holders or a camera arm with no drilling.
  • Three Rod Holders: One forward-facing, two rear-facing, all flush mounted so nothing snags your line.
  • EVA Foam Deck: Non-slip pads across the standing area. They add grip and they deaden hull noise.
  • Universal Transducer Mount: Built into the hull so a transducer goes in without cutting a hole in your boat.
  • Sealed Bow Hatch: Water-tight storage up front, and the access you need to rig wiring inside the hull.
  • Adjustable Foot Braces: Slide along a rail and snap-lock into place.
  • 85 lbs: Light enough to car-top and load alone, which is the difference between fishing on a weeknight and not.

Old Town Sportsman 120 Questions, Answered

Can you really stand up in it?

Yes. The DoubleU hull and the 33.5 inch beam are built for it, and the EVA deck pads give you grip when the deck is wet. Standing is the whole point of the hull shape. Expect the usual learning curve if you have only ever fished sitting down.

Does it come with a rudder?

No. It is rudder compatible, so the mounting points are there and you can add one. The pedal and motor boats in the line ship with one already installed.

How much weight can I actually put in it?

Total Weight Capacity is 500 lbs. Subtract the 85 lb boat and you have 415 lbs of Usable Weight Capacity for you, your gear and your battery. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against, not the total.

Should I get this or the pedal version?

The Sportsman PDL 120 is the same 12 ft length with the PDL Drive under the seat, which frees both hands for the rod. It also adds 31 lbs and a drive unit to maintain. Take the paddle boat if you want less weight, less money and less to service.

Can I put a fish finder on it?

Yes, and you do not have to drill. The universal transducer mount is molded in, and the two 18 in tracks give you a place to mount the head unit.

Is there a used one available?

Sometimes. We have a lightly used demo listed as the Old Town Sportsman 120 Sit On Top Fishing Kayak Used Photic when one is in stock.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin back cut so it sits flat against a kayak seat.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

How does the Old Town Sportsman 120 ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
