If you prefer a replacement for cosmetic issues, a 20% restocking fee may apply.

The Astral Loyak Women's Water Shoes are Astral's number one seller, and the reason is grip. The Flex Grip outsole is made from G.15 Rubber, razor siped and non-marking, and it holds on wet rock the way a climbing shoe holds on dry. Wet boat ramps, algae-covered river cobble, a slick deck. That is the whole problem this shoe solves.

It is a barefoot-style shoe. Zero drop from heel to ball on a Level Footbed, minimal arch, a wider toe box, and 11 millimeters between your foot and the ground. Astral calls the combination Balanced Geometry. You get ground feel and stability instead of a cushioned platform that hides what you are standing on.

The uppers are 100% rPET canvas and mesh, which drain fast, dry fast and keep sand and silt from working their way in. Recessed lilo-stitching bonds the canvas straight to the outsole, and the drop-in midsole is removable. 5.7 ounces per shoe in a size 7.

What size should I order?

True to size, and Astral builds whole sizes only in women's 6 through 11. If you are a half size, size down. Ordering up leaves your foot sliding inside the shoe, which is exactly what you do not want on wet rock.

How good is the grip on wet rock?

Grip is the reason this is Astral's bestseller. G.15 Rubber is a sticky compound, the outsole is razor siped to channel water out from under the tread, and it is non-marking so it will not scuff a boat deck. It is the closest thing to a climbing rubber in a water shoe.

What does zero drop actually mean?

Your heel and the ball of your foot sit at the same height, 11 millimeters off the ground, with minimal arch support. Your foot stands the way it stands barefoot. It gives you ground feel and balance, and it is a real change if you have only worn cushioned shoes.

Do they drain and dry quickly?

Yes. The canvas and mesh uppers are built to drain and dry fast while keeping sand and silt from working in. That is what Astral means by Water Ready. They are meant to be soaked, not protected from water.

Can I wear them off the water?

That is most of what people do with them. Astral lists water, casual, boat and travel as intended uses. They pack flat, weigh 5.7 ounces a shoe, and do not look like a water shoe.

Will the sole separate from the upper?

That is the failure mode Astral engineered against. Recessed lilo-stitching connects the hydrophobic canvas uppers directly to the G Rubber outsole rather than relying on glue alone.

Can I take the insole out?

Yes. The 45C closed cell EVA midsole is a drop-in and removable, so you can pull it to dry the shoe out faster or replace it when it packs down. Astral says it was the outdoor industry's first drop-in midsole design.

Are they the same shoe as the men's Loyak?

Same design, same G.15 Rubber outsole, same zero drop footbed, cut on a women's last and offered in women's 6 through 11. The women's size 7 weighs 5.7 ounces per shoe against 7.4 for a men's 9. Colors differ between the two.
