Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Compass is the Hobie most people should start with. Twelve feet, 34 inches wide, 68 lbs fitted, 400 lbs of capacity, and the same MirageDrive 180 that the expensive boats run.

Hobie built it as the do-everything hull. Stable enough to stand on, light enough to load without help, rigged enough to fish, and priced below the dedicated fishing boats. If you are not sure yet whether you are a fisherman or a paddler, this is the boat that does not force the decision.

The seat is an anodized aluminum alloy frame in monomesh and ripstop nylon. It breathes, it drains, and it holds up. The rudder is spring loaded and kicks up on impact, with a molded-in tracking keel that keeps you straight when the rudder is stowed.

A two-piece paddle, two rod holders, a drink holder, an 8 inch twist and seal hatch and Power-Pole Micro mounting all come with it.

Hobie Compass Questions, Answered

Compass or Outback?

Fishing rigging. The Hobie Outback adds a Guardian transducer shield, Power-Pole Ready mounting, an H-Rail with RAM Hand-Track, four rod holders and the wider CTW seat, at 17 lbs more. The Compass has two rod holders and a simpler deck. Buy the Compass if fishing is part of what you do, the Outback if it is the point.

Compass or Revolution 11?

Shape. The Compass is 34 inches wide and stable enough to stand on. The Hobie Revolution 11 is 29 inches wide, which makes it faster and easier to drive but not a standing platform. Flat-water speed goes to the Revolution. Stability and fishing go to the Compass.

Can I stand up in it?

Yes, for most people. Thirty-four inches of beam on a flat hull is enough. It is not the platform a 38 inch Pro Angler is, so expect a learning curve if you are tall or the water is choppy.

What does the 180 in MirageDrive 180 mean?

Reverse. Pull a cable and the fins flip through 180 degrees, so pedaling the same way drives you backwards at full power. It is how you back off a snag or hold against current without picking up the paddle.

What are Kick-Up Fins?

Fins that retract by themselves on impact. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back when it hits something and drops again once you are past.

Is there a tandem version?

Yes. The Hobie Compass Duo is 13.5 feet, runs two drives, and carries 475 lbs. Same hull design philosophy, room for two.

What is the tracking keel for?

It is molded into the hull, so the boat still runs reasonably straight when the rudder is kicked up or stowed. Useful in the shallows where you do not want the rudder down.

Does it come with a paddle?

Yes, a two-piece. You pedal most of the time, but you want a paddle aboard for water too shallow for the drive.

What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?

Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III cut thin through the back so it works with a seat back.

How long is the Hobie warranty?

Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.

What voids coverage?

Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.

How does the Hobie Compass ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim.
