Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

That weight number matters more than people expect. At 85 lbs you can load an Outback on a roof rack alone. A Pro Angler 14 at 120.5 lbs is a two-person job or a cart job every single time. The Outback is the fishing Hobie you take out on a weeknight because getting it to the water is not a project.

The rigging is real, not token. Four vertical rod holders, an H-Rail with an integrated RAM Hand-Track, a Guardian retractable transducer shield, Power-Pole ready mounting, EVA deck pads for standing and a two-piece paddle that stores on the hull.

The Vantage CTW seat is the wide one. Hobie gives it 1.5 inches of extra width over the standard Vantage and rates it to 275 lbs. There is also an underhull Kick-Up rudder, which folds instead of breaking when you find a rock.

Outback or Pro Angler?

Weight against capacity. The Outback is 85 lbs fitted and carries 425 lbs. The Pro Angler 12 is 105 lbs fitted and carries 500. If you load alone, the Outback wins on the days you actually go. If you need the capacity and the standing room, the Pro Angler is the boat.

Outback or Compass?

The Hobie Compass is 12 feet, 68 lbs fitted, 400 lb capacity and costs less. The Outback adds 17 lbs, more fishing rigging (Guardian shield, Power-Pole ready, RAM Hand-Track, four rod holders) and the wider CTW seat. Compass for recreation with some fishing. Outback for fishing first.

Can I stand and fish in it?

Yes. Thirty-four inches of beam with EVA pads through the standing area. It is less of a platform than a 38 inch Pro Angler, so expect to work at it a little more if you are tall or new to standing.

Is 85 lbs really car-toppable alone?

For most people, yes, with a decent rack and a bit of technique. Pull the seat and the drive first and you are lifting closer to 85 than 103. If you have a tall vehicle or a bad back, use a cart and a trailer instead of proving a point.

What are Kick-Up Fins?

Fins that retract by themselves when they hit something. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back on impact and drops again once you are clear, so a stump in skinny water does not bend a mast.

What is a Power-Pole and do I need one?

A shallow water anchor that spikes into the bottom to hold you in place. You do not need one, but the Outback has the mounting already built in if you decide you want it later.

Does it come with a paddle?

Yes. A two-piece paddle is included and it stores on the hull. You are pedaling most of the time, but you want a paddle aboard when the water gets too skinny for the drive.

How do I get it to the water?

A cart, if the walk is any distance. The Suspenz All-Terrain Super Duty Airless Cart handles rough ground and soft sand better than most.

What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?

Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel. Two seconds, and it is the most common way these boats get damaged.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin back cut for a high seat back.

How long is the Hobie warranty?

Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.

What voids coverage?

Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.

How does the Hobie Outback ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim.
