Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Old Town Canoe and Kayak Warranty

  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

The Sportsman BigWater PDL 132 is the long boat in Old Town's pedal line. Thirteen feet two inches of hull built for water that has some fetch to it: big lakes, bays, tidal flats and anywhere wind has room to build.

Length is the whole argument. A 13 ft hull carries speed between spots and holds a line in chop that shoves a shorter boat sideways. The tri-hull bottom trades some of a DoubleU's turning for stability that holds up when the water gets rough.

It is the only boat in this group that ships with mounting plates included and a shallow water anchor mount already there. Four accessory tracks, two forward and two in the stern. PDL Drive carries a 5 year warranty.

Key Features

  • 13 ft 2 in Hull: The length that makes open water manageable. It carries speed between spots and stays pointed where you aimed it.
  • Tri-Hull Design: A different bottom from the shorter PDL boats. Built for stability when the water is not flat.
  • PDL Drive: Instant forward and reverse from the pedals, saltwater-ready, 5 year warranty.
  • Mounting Plates Included: The only boat in this group that ships with them. More places to hang hardware out of the box.
  • Shallow Water Anchor Mount: Inserts are already in the hull for a stake-out pole.
  • Four Accessory Tracks: Two forward and two in the stern, so electronics and rod holders do not compete for the same rail.
  • Large Stern Tank Well: Removable bungee. Takes a cooler, a bait bucket or a loaded tackle crate.
  • Element Seating System: Shuttle-track leg adjustment, lumbar support, draining mesh.
  • Rudder Included: Oversized control for a boat this long, run from the seat.
  • Drive and Seat Come Out: Pull both and you are moving a 95 lb hull.

Old Town Sportsman BigWater PDL 132 Questions, Answered

Who is this boat for?

Anglers on big water. Large reservoirs, coastal bays, tidal rivers, anywhere the wind has a mile of open surface to work with. On a small pond the length works against you.

How is the tri-hull different from the DoubleU hull?

The DoubleU on the Sportsman PDL 120 runs two shallow keel lines and turns easily. The BigWater uses a tri-hull bottom that Old Town built around open-water stability. You give up some maneuverability for a boat that behaves better in chop.

Is it saltwater safe?

The PDL Drive is saltwater-ready and Old Town rates it that way. Rinse the drive, the rudder hardware and the tracks with fresh water after every salt trip. That is the whole maintenance story.

What can I load into it?

Total Weight Capacity is 500 lbs and Usable Weight Capacity is 378 lbs. Slightly less Usable Weight Capacity than the PDL 120 because the hull itself weighs 6 lbs more.

What are the mounting plates for?

They give you hard mounting points for accessories that need more than a track will hold. This is the only boat in the Old Town lineup we stock that includes them.

Can I transport it alone?

Thirteen feet and 122 lbs assembled is a two-person lift or a cart. Pull the 21 lb console and the 6 lb seat first and the hull is 95 lbs.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin-back cut for kayak seats.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. The PDL Drive itself is covered for 5 years. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

How does the Old Town Sportsman BigWater PDL 132 ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
