Fishing from a kayak has definitely been on the rise here in Tennessee, as well as the nation with fisherman, and women looking to access the water. Here at Caney Fork Outdoors, there are many choices of fishing kayaks, and I wanted to give you an insight on the Bonafide SS127.
This boat is very well thought out for the kayak angler from bow to stern. One of my favorite features of the Bonafide Kayak SS127 are the crab/loading handles in front and back. This makes loading, positioning, and even tie off very easy. The front handle allows you to carry, or pull the boat away from your body making it very simple, not in the way. The back functions much the same way, but folds away when not in use allowing a rudder system, or Power Pole to be in use.
Another great feature is the two-way accessible front hatch. The hatch has latches in the front, and back so you can pivot the hatch forward or back making it easily accessible on the water. The hatch itself is very large which allows me to store rods, PFD, and much more gear for my fishing trip. On top of this large hatch, it has grooves for staging rods which allows me to place one rod down, paddle to reposition on a spot. Let’s move on the pod in the center of the boat. This is an ideal place for mounting fish finder/GPS units as you may have seen in pictures on the internet. I have been using my Raymarine Dragonfly 5 on my SS127 pod with the transducer mounted on the underside of the pod. Ryan and Logan at Caney Fork Outdoors helped me with this setup, and has been flawless. The unit battery, and additional wiring are contained, waterproof in the pod. One of the best features of this boat is the seat, and junk drawer. The seat design is definitely one of the most comfortable seats in a kayak I have sat in. With multiple seat arrangements forward to back, as well as the high/low options, this seat can be arranged for any angler’s preference. High back seat with adjustable lumbar support comes in handy for all day fishing trips. The junk drawer has been an awesome feature for me in fishing out of this boat. It makes switching lures much easier, and keeps me organized throughout the day. We all have somewhat of a plan before hitting the water on what we will be fishing with for the day, and this feature really makes it nice. Not only does the drawer help with organizing my tackle, on the front of the drawer there are cut outs for staging my rods. This really helps hold the rod butt from moving around in the floor of the kayak during lure changes. Moving to the large tank well, tons of crate/tackle box configurations here. The bungie system has 4 hooks at each corner of the tank well for holding a YakAttack Black Pak in place, or many other crate systems you choose to use. Of course, there are Yak Attack strips all over the boat which is key in customizing your boat for you style of fishing. Let’s move on the boat performance on the water. This boat is one of the most stable fishing boats on the market. Paddles very well in any seat position, and with the tri-hull design has great secondary stability. The SS127 also tracks on the water very well on the water, and turns well without a rudder system.
I have really enjoyed fishing out of this boat with all the great fishing, and paddling features that Bonafide has designed into this boat. There are now 3 models and 2 limited edtion models to choose from: SS127, SS107, SS107 Limited Edition, SS127 Limited Edition, and the new RS117 all of which have great fishing performance on the water. Caney Fork Outdoors can assist you on which boat will be the boat for your fishing/paddling needs. If you can’t decide, all 3 would work!
