When people talk about me I often wonder what their outlook of me ultimately is. Do they think i’m interesting, maybe they find me a bit boring, maybe they think I talk to much? Whatever the answer may be, I hope they find me and compare me to an onion, sometimes sweet, can bring a tear to your eye and made up of multiple layers. This may or may not be a comparison many people think of, but I think its important that a person have many layers to them to make them well rounded. This is especially true when it comes to fishing, it is very easy to become a one trick pony while fishing. A person finds a technique that works well, but they are sometimes afraid to break out of their comfort zone. Personally, I have officially entered a very uncomfortable place when it comes to the world of fishing. I have decided to add fly fishing to my arsenal of techniques while kayak fishing. I will be the first person to admit that it is one of the most intimidating forms of fishing that I have ever attempted. There are so many questions that I have about this technique it almost feels like I have never picked up a fishing rod in my life. Some of these question are what is the right type of rod, what type of line, what is the best type of fly to use for bass, sinking, floating? The list doesn’t stop there, but for the sake of time those are a few of the most important. Not only have I thrown myself headfirst into this, I have also decided not to buy flies but I will tie my own. I will not even get into the questions I have on this subject. Your probably wondering, why would a person put themselves through this when conventional methods of fishing work just fine? My answer to this is, I feel the reward of catching a fish using the purest method of fishing, on a lure that I hand crafted will far outweigh any headache I may have received during the learning process. Even though I am absolutely out of my element when it comes to fly fishing, I am persistent and I will not be defeated. Come hell or high water I will master the fly and have one more layer to add to my oniony personality.
