Bonafide XTR130 Review

Caney Fork Outdoors

The Bonafide XTR130 is the one in the Bonafide line that took kayak size to the next level. Twelve foot seven, forty and a half inches wide, 750 pounds of capacity, with a walkable floor and a swivel seat. Bonafide rates its stability 11 out of 10, which is the only place in their whole lineup they do that.

Everything else in the range tops out at 10. The extra point is Bonafide's way of saying this hull belongs in a different conversation, closer to a small bass boat than to the kayak you learned on.

The deck is the whole argument

The floor plan is 24 inches by 65 inches, open and walkable bow to stern, with a raised upper platform to stand and cast from. That is a standing platform rather than a patch of flat deck that technically holds you.

Forty and a half inches of beam under it means you stop managing your balance and start fishing. Pole a flat, work a jig straight down, fight a fish over the side. Boat wake and afternoon chop that would put you back in the seat on a narrower hull do not get a vote here.

The PivotPro swivel seat is what the deck space is for. You turn and cast instead of repositioning the whole kayak, which is the single thing that most changes how a day on the water feels. Horizontal rod storage keeps rods out of the way of a seat that spins.

Built around power and electronics

The XTR130 was designed motorization-first, not adapted for it afterward. Bow and stern motor capability are both in the deck design, PowerLink ports are there for clean wiring, and there is more than one place to put a battery so you can balance the weight where you want it.

It is built for forward-facing sonar and downscan. For anglers running two screens, Bonafide offers a Captain's Bridge accessory for dual monitor capability. A bow motor needs the Bonafide XTR 130 Bow Motor Mount, and Bonafide's Wizard foot-controlled steering can be added on top of that for hands-free boat control.

Stern rudder capability and Bonafide's convertible foot braces round it out, with extensive gear track so the rigging goes where you fish rather than where a factory guessed.

Be honest about the weight

155 pounds fitted hull, 170 fully rigged. This is not a kayak you car-top by yourself, and pretending otherwise is how people end up not using a kayak they paid good money for.

Plan on a trailer, a bed with a ramp, or a cart with large wheels and a second set of hands. The weight is the price of the deck space and the capacity, and it is a fair trade if you know it going in. For the walk from the parking lot, Bonafide makes the XTR 130 Adapter Kit that fits the Bonafide Sidekick Kayak Cart to this hull.

Where it sits in the Bonafide line

The comparison most people are actually making is against the PWR129, and the two are built for different days.

The PWR129 is 35 inches wide, 78 pounds fitted hull, 500 pound capacity, with integrated foot steering to a Springblade rudder. It is the paddle-and-power kayak: light enough to handle alone, motor-ready when you want it.

The XTR130 is the bass boat. Forty and a half inches, 155 pounds, 750 pounds of capacity, a swivel seat and a walkable upper deck. If what you want is to stand all day with a full electronics package and still have capacity left over, this is the hull. If you want to load it alone on a Tuesday evening, look at the PWR129.

Two more parts worth knowing: the Under Seat Drawer adds dry storage where the dead space was, and Flex Wings are the tracking fins that sit under the dual skid plates.

Bonafide XTR130 Questions, Answered

Is the 11 out of 10 stability rating a typo?

No, Bonafide did that on purpose. Every other kayak in their line tops out at 10. At 40.5 inches wide with 750 pounds of capacity and a 24 by 65 inch walkable floor, the XTR130 is closer to a small bass boat than to a kayak, and the rating is their way of saying so.

Can I run forward-facing sonar on it?

Yes. Forward-facing sonar and downscan compatibility are listed features, and there are PowerLink ports for clean rigging. Bonafide's Captain's Bridge accessory adds dual monitor capability, which is what anglers running two screens want.

Bow motor, stern motor, or both?

The deck was designed motorization-first with bow and stern capability. A bow motor needs the Bow Motor Mount accessory. Bonafide's Wizard foot-controlled steering can be added for hands-free control once the motor is on.

Can two people fish out of it?

Yes, with the dual swivel seat accessory. Bonafide lists tandem fishing, teaching and kid-friendly setups as intended uses, and the 750 pound capacity is what makes that realistic rather than theoretical.

How heavy is it, honestly?

155 pounds fitted hull and 170 fully rigged. Plan on a trailer, a bed with a ramp, or a cart and a second person. Anyone telling you this is a one-person roof rack load has not carried one.

XTR130 or PWR129?

Both are motor-ready. The PWR129 is 35 inches wide, 78 pounds fitted hull, 500 pound capacity, with integrated foot steering. The XTR130 is 40.5 inches, 155 pounds, 750 pound capacity, with a swivel seat and a walkable upper deck. The PWR is the paddle-and-power kayak. The XTR is the bass boat.

Where does a kayak this wide actually shine?

Open water and anywhere you want to stand for hours. Big lakes, wide rivers and tidal flats play to the beam and the capacity. For tight creek arms and small ponds, a narrower and shorter hull will be happier.

How does the Bonafide XTR130 ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the kayak to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look it over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
