Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Lynx weighs 47 lbs. That is the headline and it is the reason the boat exists. Every other pedal kayak here is 64 lbs or more, and most are over 85.

It gets there on construction. The Lynx is ACE-TEC, not rotomolded polyethylene: a molded EPS foam core with fiberglass reinforcement and an ASA polymer outer skin. Stiff, watertight and a lot lighter than roto-poly for the same hull.

What you get is a boat one person loads without a second thought, on 36 inches of beam with an EVA standing pad and 350 lbs of capacity. Wide and light at the same time, which is a combination the poly boats cannot do.

It runs the MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins. The rudder is removable and the steering handle mounts on the left or the right. It is Power-Pole ready, H-Rail ready, H-Bar standing support ready and has a fish finder transducer cavity built in.

Hobie Lynx Questions, Answered

What is ACE-TEC and is it as tough as plastic?

It is a molded composite: an EPS foam core with fiberglass reinforcement under an ASA polymer outer skin. It is stiffer and much lighter than rotomolded polyethylene. Hobie does not publish a durability comparison between the two and we are not going to invent one. What we will say is that a composite hull does not like being dragged over gravel the way a poly boat shrugs off. Use a cart.

Why is it so much lighter than the other Hobies?

Construction, not size. At 36 inches wide it is as wide as a Pro Angler 12, but 58 lbs lighter fitted. The ACE-TEC hull is the entire reason.

Can I stand and fish in it?

Yes, that is what the EVA pad is for, and 36 inches of beam supports it. It is also H-Bar ready if you want a standing support bar to hold.

Is it a fishing kayak?

It is fishing-capable rather than fishing-loaded. You get a transducer cavity, Power-Pole ready mounting, H-Rail ready mounting and a standing pad. What Hobie does not list in its features are rod holders, so plan on adding those. If you want the full fishing deck out of the box, the Hobie Outback is the boat.

What does the 180 in MirageDrive 180 mean?

Reverse. Pull a cable and the fins flip through 180 degrees, so pedaling the same way drives you backwards at full power. It is how you back off a snag or hold against current without picking up the paddle.

What are Kick-Up Fins?

Fins that retract by themselves on impact. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back when it hits something and drops again once you are past.

Does the rudder really come off?

Yes, completely. That is useful for transport and for storage, and it means nothing is hanging off the stern when the boat is on a rack.

What is the capacity?

350 lbs. Same as the Hobie Revolution 13 and 75 lbs more than the Revolution 11, on a boat that weighs 47 lbs.

How careful do I need to be with it?

More careful than with a poly boat. Do not drag it up a boat ramp and do not let it sit loaded on a trailer bunk in the sun all summer. Use a cart, use padded supports, and it will last.

What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?

Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III cut thin through the back.

How long is the Hobie warranty?

Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.

What voids coverage?

Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.

How does the Hobie Lynx ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate.
