Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Passport 12 R is where the value line stops being a compromise. Twelve feet, 34 inches wide, 400 lbs of capacity, and an EVA padded standing platform that the 10.5 does not have.

It is the Passport with the fishing parts added. H-Track accessory mounts, a Power-Pole Micro mounting pad, rod caddies and rod holders, accessible tackle storage, a forward accessory mount, H-Bar ready mounting, and a transducer cavity with a mounting plate already in the hull.

The drive is the MirageDrive GT with Kick-Up Fin technology, the same one in the 10.5. The seat is the suspended mesh aluminum frame. The rudder stows.

73 lbs fitted, 83 lbs rigged. That is lighter than a Compass and a long way under an Outback, on a boat you can stand and fish from.

Hobie Passport 12 R Questions, Answered

Passport 12 R or Compass?

Close call, and it comes down to drive and deck. The Hobie Compass is 68 lbs fitted, runs the MirageDrive 180 with full-power reverse, and has the aluminum frame seat. The Passport 12 R runs the MirageDrive GT, is 5 lbs heavier, and adds the EVA standing platform, the transducer cavity, H-Track mounts and Power-Pole mounting. If reverse matters most, Compass. If the fishing deck matters most, Passport 12 R.

Passport 12 R or Passport 10.5 R?

The 12 R carries 75 lbs more, tracks better, and is the only one of the two with a standing platform, a transducer cavity and H-Track mounts. The Hobie Passport 10.5 R is 8 lbs lighter and a foot and a half shorter to store.

What is the MirageDrive GT?

It is the drive Hobie fits to the Passport and iTrek boats. Hobie pairs it with Glide Technology, which they describe as "roller bearings at key friction points reduce resistance for a smooth and efficient ride", and with Kick-Up Fins. Hobie publishes no side-by-side comparison between the GT and the MirageDrive 180, so we are not going to make one up. What are Kick-Up Fins?

Fins that retract by themselves on impact. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back when it hits something and drops again once you are past.

Can I stand and fish in it?

Yes. The EVA padded standing platform is there for exactly that, and it is H-Bar ready if you want a support bar. Thirty-four inches of beam supports it for most people.

Will a fish finder fit?

Yes, and easily. The transducer cavity and mounting plate are built into the hull, and the H-Track carries the head unit. No drilling.

Is it a proper fishing kayak?

It is a genuine fishing boat at a lower price than the Hobie Outback. What the Outback has that this does not is the Guardian retractable transducer shield, the full H-Rail with RAM Hand-Track, four rod holders and the wider CTW seat. For a lot of anglers the Passport 12 R is enough boat.

Does it come with a paddle?

Yes, an aluminum two-piece.

How do I get it to the water?

Cargo scuppers take a Hobie cart directly. For rough ground or soft sand the Suspenz All-Terrain Super Duty Airless Cart rolls better than most.

What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?

Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin back cut for a seat back.

How long is the Hobie warranty?

Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.

What voids coverage?

Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.

How does the Hobie Passport 12 R ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim.
