Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.
Astral Warranty

Astral guarantees every product against defects in materials and workmanship for the reasonable lifespan of the product. Coverage goes to the original purchaser.

The Astral Sturgeon PFD took the five pockets most fishing vests scatter across the front and consolidated them into one. Astral calls it the Clamshell Pocket. It opens toward you like a tackle tray, with internal compartments, so you can see what you have instead of patting down five zippers looking for one thing.

The back is a Thin Vent panel, which is the part that matters if you fish from a seat. It is breathable and thin enough to work with every high-back kayak seat we sell, so the vest is not fighting your seat back all day. Front entry is a 3/4 zip, so it goes on and off without a wrestling match.

Fishing-specific storage is built in: a pliers holster, easy access slip pockets, clipping points for line nips and retractors, an exterior folding knife slip pocket and a quick access knife tab. 16 pounds of buoyancy, USCG Type III, 1.63 pounds on the scale.

What makes the Sturgeon different from a normal fishing PFD?

The pocket layout. Most fishing vests give you five separate front pockets. Astral consolidated them into one large Clamshell Pocket that opens toward you with internal compartments, so your gear is visible and organized in one place rather than hidden across five zippers.

Will it work with a high-back kayak seat?

Yes, that is what the Thin Vent back panel is for. It is thin and breathable so it sits against a seat back without bunching or pushing you forward. Astral states it is compatible with all seats.

How much flotation does it have?

16 pounds, USCG Type III. Type III is approved whether you are wearing it or it is stowed aboard, which is the practical difference between this and an inflatable belt.

Where do pliers and tools go?

There is a dedicated pliers holster, easy access slip pockets, and clipping points for line nips and retractors. The knife has its own exterior folding-knife slip pocket plus a quick access tab.

What size should I order?

Measure your chest at its widest point. S/M is 31 to 37 inches, M/L is 38 to 44, L/XL is 45 to 51. Go by that measurement rather than your shirt size, because Astral patterns for a seated paddling posture.

Is it hot to wear all day?

The back panel is breathable mesh and the liner is brushed polyester mesh, so it moves more air than a solid-foam vest. If heat is your main concern, the V-Eight Fisher with the Airescape airflow system is the cooler of the two.

How heavy is it?

1.63 pounds, about 26 ounces. That is normal for a fishing vest carrying this much storage, and light enough that you stop noticing it once you are casting.

Sturgeon or V-Eight Fisher?

Storage versus airflow. The Sturgeon gives you the big Clamshell Pocket and more organized capacity. The V-Eight Fisher is the cooler, more minimal vest with the Airescape system and a high mesh back. Same buoyancy, same price. Pick by whether you carry a lot or fish hot water.
