Shipping Damage Free Guarantee
Accessory Shipments
Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.
It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.
Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.
Kayak Shipments
We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.
If we hand deliver it
Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.
If it ships LTL freight
Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.
What we cover
Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.
Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Filing a claim
Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.
The Sportsman PDL 120 is the boat most people mean when they say Old Town pedal kayak. Twelve feet, 36 inches wide, 500 lbs of Total Weight Capacity, and the PDL Drive giving instant forward and reverse under the seat.
The extra 18 inches over the PDL 106 is what you feel on open water. A 12 ft hull holds a line in wind and chop that pushes a shorter boat around, and it gives you 384 lbs of Usable Weight Capacity for a battery, a full crate and a big angler at the same time.
Rudder is included and controlled from the seat. The drive and seat both lift out, dropping the hull to 91 lbs for transport. PDL Drive is saltwater-ready and carries a 5 year warranty. Rotomolded in Maine.

Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 Questions, Answered
PDL 120 or PDL 106?
Length. The 120 is 18 inches longer, tracks better on open water and carries 50 lbs more. The Sportsman PDL 106 is 9 lbs lighter and turns tighter, which wins on creeks and small ponds. Same drive, same width, same seat in both.
What is the difference between this and the BigWater PDL 132?
Fourteen more inches of hull and a different bottom. The Sportsman BigWater PDL 132 is built for bigger water, adds mounting plates and a shallow water anchor mount, and weighs 6 lbs more. The PDL 120 is the more versatile of the two.
Does the PDL Drive really do reverse?
Yes, instantly. Pedal backward and the propeller reverses. There is no shifter and no delay. It is how you back off a snag or hold position against current without touching a paddle.
How shallow can I run it?
Not shallow with the drive down. It is a propeller and it needs water under it. Pull the drive with the docking system when the bottom comes up and keep a paddle on board.
What is Usable Weight Capacity?
384 lbs. That is the 500 lb Total Weight Capacity minus the 116 lb Assembled Boat Weight. Plan your load against the Usable Weight Capacity, not the Total Weight Capacity.
Do I want this or the paddle version?
The Sportsman 120 is the same length without the drive: 31 lbs lighter, a lot less money, and nothing to service. Take the PDL if hands-free positioning is worth that to you. It usually is for anglers who fish current or wind.
Can I run a fish finder?
Yes. Universal transducer mount, two 18 in tracks, and a center hatch for running wire. No holes in the hull.
Do I need a life jacket with it?
Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal has a thin back so it does not fight the seat.
What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?
Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.
What does the warranty cover?
The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. The PDL Drive itself is covered for 5 years. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.
Who handles a warranty claim?
Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.
How does the Old Town Sportsman PDL 120 ship?
Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
I love this kayak. The ergonomics and layout are excellent. The fit and finish is also excellent. My buddies all have boats, and I've compared mine to some of theirs and can say I'm absolutely pleased with my purchase. One drawback is that it's slightly heavy, but I have a cart on order to help me maneuver it by myself. No complaints so far.
