Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Old Town Canoe and Kayak Warranty

  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Not covered

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

The Sportsman PDL 106 puts Old Town's PDL Drive under the shortest hull they offer it in. Ten and a half feet, 36 inches wide, and a drive that gives you instant forward and reverse without taking a hand off the rod.

Reverse is the part paddlers underestimate. A propeller drive backs off a snag, holds you off a laydown and repositions you on a fish without a paddle stroke. That is what you are paying for.

The whole package is 107 lbs assembled, and the drive and seat both lift out. Pull the 18 lb console and the 6 lb seat and you are loading an 83 lb hull. Rudder is included. The PDL Drive carries a 5 year warranty and is saltwater-ready.

  • Element Seating System: Adjusts along a shuttle track for leg length, with lumbar support and a mesh cover that drains.
  • Two 18 in Tracks: Forward-hull mounting for a fish finder, rod holders or a camera arm.
  • Three Rod Holders: One forward-facing and two rear-facing, flush mounted.
  • Bow and Center Hatches: Water-tight bow storage plus center access for running wire inside the hull.
  • Drive and Seat Come Out: Pull both and the hull drops to 83 lbs for the roof rack or the truck bed.

Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 Questions, Answered

What does the PDL Drive actually do?

It is a pedal-driven propeller. Pedal forward and you go forward; reverse the pedals and you back up, immediately, with no shifting. Your hands never leave the rod. It is not a fin drive, so it does not need a forward stroke to build speed.

How does it compare to the PDL 120?

Eighteen inches shorter and 9 lbs lighter, with 50 lbs less Total Weight Capacity. The Sportsman PDL 120 tracks better and carries more on open water. The 106 is the one for creeks, ponds and anywhere you have to turn in tight.

Can I pedal it in shallow water?

Not with the drive down. A propeller drive needs draft. The easy-docking system lets you pull the drive up fast when the bottom comes up, and you keep a paddle aboard for the skinny stuff. Plan for it.

How much gear can it take?

Total Weight Capacity is 450 lbs. Usable Weight Capacity is 343 lbs after the boat. Remember the drive console and the seat are part of that 107 lbs, so what is left is for you and your gear.

Is it hard to maintain?

Old Town builds it as a low-maintenance drive and backs it for 5 years. Rinse it after saltwater, keep the prop clear of line, and check the pedal hardware. That is most of it.

Can I car-top it?

At 107 lbs assembled, not comfortably alone. Pull the 18 lb console and the 6 lb seat first and you are lifting 83 lbs. Two people, or a cart, makes it a non-issue.

Will a fish finder mount?

Yes. Universal transducer mount molded into the hull, two 18 in tracks for the head unit, and a center hatch to run the wire. No drilling.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is cut thin through the back so it sits flat against the seat.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. The PDL Drive itself is covered for 5 years. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

How does the Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
