The Apex Watercraft Tyr Fishing Kayak weighs 40 pounds. Fishing kayaks at this length and width routinely weigh double that. You load it by yourself, you launch where a heavy boat cannot go, and you finish a tournament day with something left in the tank. This one is a used boat in black and blue.
At 12'10" long and 36" wide it has the stability to stand up, sight fish and move around the deck. The planing hull and shallow draft keep it quick instead of sluggish, which is the trade most wide fishing kayaks make and lose. It tracks clean, turns when you ask it to, and carries speed better than a heavy plastic hull. Shallow water is where that combination pays.
The deck is laid out to fish. A carbon fiber swivel bucket seat sits 7 inches above the standing platform. Rod stagers are built in and reverse facing, secured under pressure. The hatch is carbon fiber with a magnet closure. Foot braces are contoured carbon on YakAttack GearTrac, seat tracks are RAM Mount, and neodymium magnets are inlaid in the deck to hold tools, lures, your paddle and a tackle bag.
Hull and deck are one layer of TexTreme carbon, one layer of Innegra and one layer of carbon twill over a foam core standing platform, with foam core ribs and stringers throughout. Apex molds its Diamond Shield coating into the outer surface to protect the carbon. Every 1/4"-20 insert is bonded and carbon sealed, and the seat tracks are riveted and epoxy sealed, so nothing leaks.

Apex Watercraft Tyr Fishing Kayak Questions, Answered
How much does the Tyr weigh, and why does that matter?
40 pounds. A plastic fishing kayak of the same size is often 80 to 100. Lighter means faster acceleration, less energy to cover water, and loading the boat alone instead of recruiting help. Over a full day on the water that is the difference between fishing hard at 4pm and being done at 2pm.
Can I stand up and fish out of it?
Yes. It has a foam core standing platform and a hull built for both primary and secondary stability. Most boats get that stability by going wide, flat and slow. The Tyr keeps the stability and stays quick.
This boat is listed as used. What does that mean?
It is a previously owned Tyr in black and blue, not a new boat, and it is priced accordingly. Same hull and same build as the new one. Call us at (615) 696-7887 and we will walk you through its exact condition before you buy.
What is the hull actually made of?
One layer of TexTreme carbon, one layer of Innegra and one layer of carbon twill, over a foam core standing platform with foam core stiffening ribs and stringers. Innegra is there for impact toughness. Apex then molds its Diamond Shield coating into the outer surface to protect the carbon.
Does it come with cork or foam decking?
Apex builds the Tyr with either. Both add traction and dampen sound, cork looks different and weighs about 1.5 pounds more. Call us at (615) 696-7887 and we will tell you which one is on this boat before you buy.
Will my electronics and gear mount to it?
Yes. RAM Mount seat tracks are riveted and epoxy sealed into the deck, and the foot braces run on YakAttack GearTrac. Bonded 1/4"-20 inserts are carbon sealed so mounting hardware does not create a leak.
What are the magnets in the deck for?
Neodymium magnets are inlaid into the boat at key spots to hold pliers, lures, your paddle and a tackle bag. It keeps the deck clear and keeps gear from sliding off when you move around.
How does the Tyr ship?
Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours. We email the full details once your order is placed.
