Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.
Astral Warranty

Astral guarantees every product against defects in materials and workmanship for the reasonable lifespan of the product. Coverage goes to the original purchaser.

The Astral Otter 2.0 PFD is a kids life jacket filled with organic kapok. Kapok is a plant fiber, and it conforms to a small torso better than any synthetic foam Astral has tested. That matters more for kids than adults, because a jacket that does not fit right is a jacket a kid fights all day.

It is built to the same standard as Astral's adult vests. USCG Type III with 11.5 pounds of buoyancy, 420 x 220 denier nylon ripstop shell, YKK auto-locking Vislon zipper, front buckle entry, and heavy duty acetal hardware. Leg straps are included, which is what keeps the jacket from riding up over a child's head in moving water.

The details are the kid-specific part. Side adjustments a child can reach without a parent, two zippered pockets they will actually use, Flotection foam across the ribs, and a large padded grab handle on the top back so you can pull them out of the water in one motion. Fits 50 to 90 pounds.

What size child does the Otter 2.0 fit?

50 to 90 pounds. That is the range Astral builds it for, and weight is the number that matters rather than age. Below 50 pounds you need a smaller child's jacket; above 90, look at an adult S/M.

What is kapok and why use it in a kid's jacket?

Kapok is a natural plant fiber. Astral uses it because it is soft and conforms to the torso in a way closed-cell foam does not. For a child that translates to a jacket that feels less like a box, which is the difference between one they keep on and one they argue about.

Does it come with leg straps?

Yes, included. Use them. A child's jacket without leg straps can ride up over the head in moving water, which is the single most common failure with kids' PFDs.

What is the handle on the back for?

Lifting your child out of the water. It is large and padded and sits on the top back so you can grab it from a boat or the bank and pull them up in one motion without reaching under them.

Can my kid adjust it themselves?

That was the design intent. The fit adjustments sit on the sides where a child can reach them, so they can snug it up on the water without finding a parent first.

Is it approved by the Coast Guard?

Yes. USCG Type III with 11.5 pounds of buoyancy. Type III is approved whether it is worn or stowed aboard, unlike an inflatable belt which only counts while worn.

Is it built as well as an adult Astral jacket?

Same materials. 420 x 220 denier nylon ripstop shell, 200 denier liner, YKK auto-locking Vislon zipper, heavy duty acetal hardware. Astral did not build a cheaper version because it is for kids.

Can they wear it whitewater rafting?

Astral lists whitewater as an intended use, along with sailing and stand-up paddling. Use the leg straps and get the fit right first, and check with your outfitter, since commercial trips often require a specific jacket they provide.
