Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Badfish 4.0" Thruster Surf Fin Set is three FCS-compatible surf fins sized specifically for river surfing. Ocean fins are cut for ocean waves. A river wave is a standing wave in current, which is a different problem, and this set is the answer to it: enough bite to hold a carve, loose enough to spin.

At 4.0" the side fins are the equivalent of a GX side bite. That is the larger of the two Badfish sizes, and it is what you want on a bigger, deeper wave where you are driving hard through turns and the smaller set starts to let go.

These are FCS fins. They fit FCS fin boxes. They will not fit a click-fin box, a US longboard box or a 2-tab box.

Specifications

  • Size: 4.0"
  • Equivalent: GX side bite
  • Includes: 3 fins
  • Configuration: Thruster, tri-fin
  • Fits: FCS fin boxes
  • Weight: 0.6 lb

Key Features

  • More Hold: Taller than the 3.5" set, so the board grips through a harder carve.
  • Sized for River Surfing: Cut for a standing wave in current, not an ocean swell.
  • Complete Set: Three fins, a full thruster setup in one box.
  • For Bigger Water: The size to run when the wave has depth and push behind it.
  • FCS Compatible: Drops into any standard FCS box.

Badfish 4.0" Thruster Surf Fin Set Questions, Answered

4.0" or 3.5"?

The 4.0" is the GX side bite equivalent and the 3.5" is the GL. Take the 4.0" on a bigger, deeper wave where you want the board to hold through a turn. Take the 3.5" on smaller waves and shallower water, or if you want the board looser for spins.

Will these fit my board?

Only if it has FCS fin boxes. FCS is the two-plug system with grub screws. If your board takes click fins, a US longboard center box or 2-tab fins, this set is the wrong one.

Is a bigger fin always better?

No. More fin is more hold, and more hold means the board is harder to break loose when you want to spin or slide the tail. On a small wave the 4.0" can feel locked in. Match the fin to the wave, not to the idea that more is better.

How many fins come in the set?

Three. A center fin and two side bites, which is a complete thruster setup. You do not need to buy anything else to fill the boxes.

Are these soft flex fins?

No. These are hard surf fins for river surfing. The Soft Flex line is a separate family built to bend when it hits rock on shallow river runs. If you are running rocky, skinny water rather than surfing a wave, look at Soft Flex instead.

Should I own both sizes?

If you surf one wave at a range of flows, yes, and it is a cheap way to have two boards. Water level changes what the wave asks for, and swapping fins takes a minute in the parking lot.
