Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Boats, Drives and Accessories

  • Hull and deck: Covered for the lifetime of the boat from the original purchase date. Blemished boats carry 5 years.
  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Not covered

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

The Sportsman AutoPilot 120 is a fishing kayak that holds its own position. A 45 lb thrust Minn Kota with Spot-Lock uses GPS to pin the boat over a spot against wind and current while both of your hands stay on the rod.

That is the feature that changes how you fish. No anchor, no stake-out pole, no drifting off the brush pile mid-cast. Push a button on the Bluetooth i-Pilot remote and the motor does the work of holding you there.

Twelve feet, 37 inches wide, 558 lbs Total Weight Capacity with 406 lbs Usable Weight Capacity. The battery box is pre-wired for a 12V lithium or sealed lead-acid battery up to Group 27. Four 18 in accessory tracks and a shallow water anchor mount are already in the hull.

What is Spot-Lock and is it worth it?

It is GPS position holding. The motor makes small corrections on its own to keep the boat on a fixed point while wind and current try to push you off. If you fish brush piles, ledges, bridge pilings or anything where staying put matters, it is the reason to buy this boat over the throttle-only Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota.

Does it include a battery?

No. The battery box is pre-wired and takes a 12V lithium-ion, sealed lead-acid or AGM deep cycle battery, Group 27 or smaller, up to 12 x 7 x 9 inches.

How does it compare to the AutoPilot 136?

Eighteen inches of hull. The Sportsman AutoPilot 136 carries 102 lbs more Total Weight Capacity and 96 lbs more Usable Weight Capacity, and it handles open water better. The 120 is easier to move, easier to store and less money. Same motor, same Spot-Lock, same 37 in beam.

How heavy is it really?

152 lbs assembled, and that is before the battery. Pull the 24 lb motor console, the 4 lb battery box and the 6 lb seat and you are moving a 118 lb hull. This is a trailer or a cart boat, not a car-top boat.

What is Usable Weight Capacity?

406 lbs from a 558 lb Total Weight Capacity. Your battery counts against it, and a Group 27 lead-acid can be 50 to 60 lbs by itself. Lithium buys most of that back.

Can I paddle it if the battery dies?

You can, with the console floor plug in place, but 152 lbs of boat is slow work with a paddle. Treat the paddle as a backup to get you off the water, not as plan A.

Is it saltwater safe?

The motor is saltwater-ready. Rinse the motor, rudder and tracks with fresh water after every salt trip.

How long does the motor warranty run?

Two years on the motor drive, separate from the hull. Reconditioned drives carry one year.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal is a USCG Type III with a thin back cut for kayak seats.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. The electric motor drive is covered for 2 years. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Claims go straight to Johnson Outdoors, not to us. Their instruction is plain: do not return a JOWC product to your retailer for warranty repair. Call 800-343-1555 and take option 2 with your proof of purchase, the serial number and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.
