Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

Boats, Drives and Accessories

  • Hull and deck: Covered for the lifetime of the boat from the original purchase date. Blemished boats carry 5 years.
  • PDL pedal drive: 5 years from the original purchase date.
  • Electric motor drives: 2 years from the original purchase date.
  • Accessories such as paddles and life jackets: 1 year from the purchase date.
  • Who it covers: Original retail purchaser only. The warranty does not transfer if the boat is sold.

Not covered

Normal wear and tear, misuse, abuse, negligence and accidents, commercial use, damage from the elements, modifications, unauthorized repairs, and failure to follow Old Town's maintenance instructions. Proof of purchase is required.

Filing a claim

Old Town handles warranty claims directly. Do not return the boat to your retailer for warranty repair. Call Old Town technical support at 800-343-1555, option 2, with your proof of purchase, the boat serial number, and a description of the problem. They issue a return authorization number before anything ships.

The Sportsman Discovery Solo 119 is a canoe you paddle like a kayak. Eleven feet nine inches, 56 lbs, and a contoured kayak-style seat set low enough that a double-blade paddle works. You get canoe interior volume in a boat one person can pick up.

The hull is Old Town's three-layer polyethylene: closed-cell foam sandwiched between two layers of high-density polyethylene. That is the construction that survives being dragged over gravel bars and dropped off a tailgate, and the foam core is why a boat this tough still weighs 56 lbs.

It is built for hunters and anglers working shallow, skinny water. Shallow arch bottom, straight sides, moderate rocker. Decoys, a dog, a fishing crate or camping gear all fit in a way they do not in a sit-on-top.

Is this a canoe or a kayak?

Old Town calls it a hybrid and that is accurate. It has a canoe hull and open interior with a low, contoured kayak seat, so most people paddle it with a double blade. Sit-in, not sit-on-top.

What is three-layer polyethylene?

A sandwich: closed-cell foam in the middle, high-density polyethylene on both faces. Old Town pioneered it. The foam core adds stiffness and impact resistance without the weight a solid hull of the same thickness would carry.

How much can I put in it?

Total Weight Capacity is 354 lbs and Usable Weight Capacity is 298 lbs once the 56 lb hull is subtracted. It is the smallest capacity in this group, so a heavy angler plus a full duck rig will run it close.

Can I stand up in it?

Old Town does not rate it as a stand-up fishing platform and we are not going to tell you it is one. It is a sit-in hull with a shallow arch bottom. Fish it seated.

Will it work for duck hunting?

That is what the armrest trays and the open hull are for. Shotgun shell storage in the trays, room for decoys and a dog, and 56 lbs means you can get it back to water a truck cannot reach.

Does it need a rudder?

There is no rudder option. Moderate rocker and 32.5 inches of beam make it turn easily, which is the trade for it not tracking like a 12 ft sea kayak.

Do I need a life jacket with it?

Yes, and the law requires one on board. The Old Town Outfitter Universal has a thin back cut that works with a seat back.

What is the difference between Total Weight Capacity and Usable Weight Capacity?

Total Weight Capacity is the total weight the boat can support in the water including everything: the assembled boat, people, gear, pets and the motor or pedal console where there is one. Usable Weight Capacity is what is left for people, gear and pets after the weight of the assembled boat comes out. Usable Weight Capacity is the number to plan against. Hover any of those labels in the Specifications above and you will get the same definition there.

What does the warranty cover?

The hull and deck carry a limited lifetime warranty from the original purchase date. Coverage is for the original retail purchaser only and it does not transfer if you sell the boat. Keep your proof of purchase and your maintenance records, because Old Town asks for both. Normal wear, sun damage, commercial use, unauthorized repair and modifications are all excluded.
