Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Compass Duo is the Compass hull stretched to carry two. Thirteen and a half feet, 35 inches wide, 475 lbs of capacity, and two drives so both people are actually working.

That last part is what separates a real tandem from a boat with two seats in it. One MirageDrive 180 and one MirageDrive GT means the person in front and the person behind are both pedaling. Nobody is a passenger unless they want to be.

It takes four rod holders, an 8 inch twist and seal hatch, a sail mount and Power-Pole Micro mounting. It is Lowrance ready. A two-piece paddle comes with it.

The rudder is the same Kick-Up design as the single: locks down when you need it, folds on impact when you find something, with a molded-in tracking keel underneath.

Hobie Compass Duo Questions, Answered

Can one person paddle it alone?

Yes. Hobie rates it for 1 to 2 crew. It is 92 lbs fitted and 13.5 feet, so solo handling on the water is fine. Getting it on and off the vehicle alone is the harder part.

Do both seats really pedal?

Yes, and that is the reason to buy this over a tandem with one drive. It ships with a MirageDrive 180 and a MirageDrive GT, one per position.

Compass Duo or Oasis?

The Hobie Oasis is a foot longer, carries 550 lbs against 475, runs two MirageDrive 180 units and adds the Vantage CT seating. The Compass Duo is 38 lbs lighter fitted and less money. Pick the Oasis for long days and bigger loads, the Duo for easier handling.

Is it stable enough to fish from?

Thirty-five inches of beam across 13.5 feet is a stable boat. Four rod holders come standard. Two people standing at once is not what this hull is for, but fishing seated from both positions works fine.

What does the 180 in MirageDrive 180 mean?

Reverse. Pull a cable and the fins flip through 180 degrees, so pedaling the same way drives you backwards at full power. It is how you back off a snag or hold against current without picking up the paddle.

What are Kick-Up Fins?

Fins that retract by themselves on impact. Hobie’s own line is "Logs, kelp, shallows, rocks, no problem." The fin folds back when it hits something and drops again once you are past.

What is the MirageDrive GT?

It is the drive Hobie fits to the Passport and iTrek boats, and to the second position here. Hobie publishes no side-by-side comparison against the 180, so we are not going to invent one. Call us at (615) 696-7887 if the difference matters to your decision and we will get it from our rep.

How do I move 127 lbs?

A cart. The Suspenz All-Terrain Super Duty Airless Cart handles the weight and rolls over the rough ground between a parking lot and a launch.

What is the one mistake that voids the warranty?

Beaching the boat with the drive and rudder still down. Hobie lists it as an exclusion by name. Pull the MirageDrive up and flip the rudder before the hull touches sand or gravel.

Do we need two life jackets?

Yes, one wearable per person on board, and the law requires it. The Old Town Outfitter Universal covers a 30 to 56 inch chest, which makes it a sensible spare to keep in the boat.

How long is the Hobie warranty?

Hobie covers 3 years on 2019 and newer models against defects in materials, manufacturing and design. Hobie repairs or replaces at their discretion.

Who handles a warranty claim?

Hobie routes warranty claims through the authorized dealer you bought from, which is us. Within 30 days of finding a defect, bring the boat and your proof of purchase to us and we handle it from there. That is worth knowing before you buy a big boat from a marketplace seller with no dealer behind it.

What voids coverage?

Normal wear and discoloration, abuse, skipped maintenance, hitting submerged objects, mooring or storing the boat in the water, improper transport or storage, weather damage, modifications, and rental or commercial use. One exclusion catches people out: beaching the boat without retracting the MirageDrive and rudder first. Pull both up before you slide onto sand or gravel.

How does the Hobie Compass Duo ship?

Two ways. If you are inside our delivery area, local delivery shows up as a shipping option at checkout and we bring the boat to you ourselves. We call ahead to set a meet-up, and since we do the unloading there is nothing for you to inspect or sign at the curb. Otherwise it ships LTL freight with a carrier running a 99.9% damage-free rate. On a freight delivery, look the boat over before you sign the receipt and write down any damage you see. That one step protects your claim.
