Shipping Damage Free Guarantee

Accessory Shipments

Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.

It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.

Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.

Kayak Shipments

We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.

If we hand deliver it

Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.

If it ships LTL freight

Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.

What we cover

Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.

Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Immersion Research Forward Adjust Reggie Backband is a direct replacement backband for modern kayaks that adjust at the thigh braces. If your boat has the adjustment straps running forward to the thigh braces instead of behind the seat, this is the version you want.

It runs IR's patented no-slip ratchet, so the setting you dial in is the setting you keep. Long day, big water, does not matter. A plastic frame carries a foam insert wrapped in neoprene, which gives you real structure in the small of your back without the bulk. All the hardware and both ratchets are stainless steel, so saltwater does not eat them.

Fitment warning from IR: this is not recommended for boats that were not originally designed with a forward-adjust system. Thigh braces on those boats are not built to take the pressure and can fail. If your boat adjusts behind the seat, use the Immersion Research Reggie Backband instead.

Immersion Research Forward Adjust Reggie Backband Questions, Answered

How do I know if my kayak takes a forward-adjust backband?

Look at where the backband straps end. On a forward-adjust boat they run forward and attach at the thigh braces, so you tighten the band by pulling near your knees. On a standard boat the straps run behind the seat. If yours attach at the thigh braces, this is the correct backband.

What is the difference between this and the standard Reggie Backband?

The band itself is the same size and build. The difference is the adjustment. This one is set up to pull forward to the thigh braces. The standard Immersion Research Reggie Backband adjusts behind the seat and fits boats without a forward-adjust system.

Can I use this in a boat that was not built for forward adjust?

IR says no. Thigh braces on those boats were not designed to take the pressure a backband puts on them, and they can fail. Use the standard Reggie in that case.

Will the ratchet loosen while I am paddling?

No. IR's patented no-slip ratchet locks at the setting you choose and holds it. That is the main reason to replace a stock backband that creeps loose every twenty minutes.

Will the hardware rust if I paddle salt water?

The hardware and both ratchets are corrosion-resistant stainless steel, so this backband is fine for salt water. Rinse the boat with fresh water after a session and it will last.

How big is the backband?

13.25" wide by 5.25" tall. It is a low-profile design, so it supports the small of your back without eating the space behind your seat or blocking the gear stored back there.

Is it hard to install?

No. It drops in as a direct replacement on boats designed for forward adjust, using IR's ladder lock ratchet straps at the thigh braces. No drilling and no modification to the boat.

Does it fit whitewater and recreational kayaks?

It fits any kayak originally built with a forward-adjust backband, whitewater or recreational. The deciding factor is the adjustment system, not the style of boat. If you are unsure about your model, call us at (615) 696-7887 before you order.

How does it ship?

Ships parcel, nationwide. It packs down small enough to box, so it goes out as a standard ground shipment.
