The Werner Shuna is the high angle paddle in the fishing line, and for 2027 it comes in two new graphics, Mosaic Bass and Tailing Red. The blade is unchanged. What changed is that the translucent fiberglass laminate now carries artwork instead of a solid color.

High angle means a steeper, shorter, more vertical stroke. It keeps the hull tracking straight and gives you something to push against when you need to turn the kayak and hold a casting angle, which is why anglers who fish moving water and wind tend to end up here rather than on a low angle blade.

This is Werner Premium construction: a mid-size fiberglass blade at 615 square centimeters, a dihedral power face, a low profile reinforcement spine, and a carbon straight shaft in Standard diameter. The whole paddle weighs 27.75 ounces. The two halves join at the Smart-View Adjustable ferrule, which feathers to any angle and leaves nothing standing proud of the shaft to snag your line.

Key Features

  • 2027 Fishing Graphics: Mosaic Bass and Tailing Red, the two new designs Werner built for anglers.
  • High Angle Blade: Mid-size at 615 square centimeters, sized for a steep vertical stroke and enough bite to correct the hull without a full sweep.
  • Smart-View Adjustable Ferrule: Infinite feather adjustment with the solid feel of a one piece shaft. The joint sits flush, so there is no button or collar to catch a line, a leader or a net handle.
  • Dihedral Power Face: The blade sheds water evenly off both sides of the spine, which is what keeps the paddle from fluttering and wandering mid stroke.
  • Low Profile Reinforcement Spine: Custom shaped and kept shallow, so the blade stays stiff and strong without fighting you when you link maneuvering strokes back to back.
  • Carbon Straight Shaft: Standard diameter carbon, tuned for flex and strength rather than raw stiffness, which is what your shoulders notice at the end of a long day.
  • Translucent Fiberglass Blades: The 2027 fishing graphics are laid into a translucent fiberglass laminate, so the pattern reads differently depending on how the light hits the blade.
  • 27.75 oz: Light enough that the thousandth stroke feels like the first, which is the only weight figure that matters on a paddle.

Werner Shuna 2 Piece Questions, Answered

What are Mosaic Bass and Tailing Red?

They are the two new 2027 fishing graphics from Werner, and they are offered on the Shuna and the Camano. Mosaic Bass runs a green and gold scale pattern. Tailing Red runs copper and orange. Both are printed into the translucent fiberglass laminate, so the blade still glows through when the sun is behind it.

High angle or low angle, which one do I want?

High angle, which is the Shuna, is a steeper and more vertical stroke with the top hand up around shoulder height. It is more powerful and better for holding a line in wind or current. Low angle, which is the Camano, is a relaxed stroke with the shaft closer to flat, better for covering water all day. Most anglers already know which one they naturally paddle.

What length should I get?

Length comes down to kayak width and seat height more than your own height. A wide fishing kayak with an elevated seat usually wants 250 or 260 cm. A narrower hull with a low seat can run 230 or 240. If you are between two, call us, because guessing on paddle length is the single most common mistake on a first premium paddle.

How does the Smart-View ferrule work?

The two halves slide together and lock with a recessed collar, and you can set any feather angle you like rather than picking from fixed holes. It assembles tight enough to feel like a one piece shaft, and because nothing sticks out, there is no button to catch a line or a leader.

Is the blade fiberglass or carbon?

The blade is premium fiberglass. The shaft is carbon. That combination is deliberate: fiberglass blades take contact with rock and oyster better than carbon does, and the carbon shaft is where the weight savings actually matter.

How is this different from the Shuna adjustable?

Same blade, same shaft, different joint. This one is a fixed length with the Smart-View ferrule. The Shuna adjustable uses the LeverLock system instead, which gives you 20 cm of on the water adjustment. Pick the adjustable if you stand to sight fish, change seat heights, or share the paddle between kayaks.

Does it come apart for transport?

Yes. It breaks into two halves at the ferrule, which is the whole point of a 2 piece. A 260 cm paddle packs down to roughly 130 cm, short enough for a truck bed or a hatch.

How does the Shuna ship?

Ships parcel, nationwide, broken down into its two halves. We are in Silver Point, Tennessee, so if you would rather handle one before you buy it, come by and swing a few.
