Shipping Damage Free Guarantee
Accessory Shipments
Paddles, PFDs, dry bags, helmets, skirts, motors, rod holders, and accessories ship UPS, FedEx, or USPS Ground.
It lands on your doorstep like any other package. We email tracking the day it leaves our shop.
Order gear on the same order as a kayak we're hand delivering or shipping, and it comes with the kayak.
Kayak Shipments
We deliver kayaks two ways. Inside our delivery area, we bring your boat to you ourselves. Everywhere else, it ships LTL freight with a carrier that reports a 99.9% damage-free delivery rate. We'll tell you which one you're getting once your order is placed along with more details.
If we hand deliver it
Nothing to inspect, nothing to sign at the curb. We're the ones unloading your kayak, so if anything is wrong, tell us right there and we'll take care of it. We will call before hand for a meetup place.
If it ships LTL freight
Look the boat over before you sign the delivery receipt. If you see damage, write it on the receipt. That one step is what protects your claim. Then email clear photos to helpdesk@cfoutdoors.com within 2 hours of delivery. We also will email you more details on this process once the order is placed.
What we cover
Structural damage. Anything that compromises the hull or would void the manufacturer's warranty, confirmed with the vendor. We make it right.
Cosmetic damage. Light scratches or minor surface dents that don't affect performance or structure. We send a repair kit when one is available. If you'd rather have a replacement, a 20% restocking fee applies plus full shipping back to us.

The Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO Rudder Kit adds foot-controlled steering to the 120 PRO. It earns its keep the moment you hang a bow-mount trolling motor on the boat: the motor pulls, the rudder holds your line, and your hands stay on the rod instead of correcting course.
You steer by pushing on the footbraces, so both hands stay free while you fish. The rudder lifts and drops from the cockpit on the included lift line, which keeps it out of the rocks in skinny water and off the trailer bunks on the ramp. Everything needed for the install is in the box, including the steering cables.
This kit fits the Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO only. It will not fit the Sportsman 120 or the Sportsman PDL 120 PRO. If you are running a stern motor instead of a bow motor, the Footbrace Steering Kit is the part you want.
Specifications
- Fits: Sportsman 120 PRO only
- Color: Black
- Steering: Foot controlled, sliding footbrace rails
- Rudder: Retractable from the cockpit
- Steering Cables: Included
- Best With: A bow-mount trolling motor
- Warranty: 1 year
Key Features
- Tracking under power: Holds a straight line when a bow-mount motor is pulling the boat, and keeps you pointed where you want in wind and current.
- Hands-free steering: Push the footbrace to turn. Your hands never leave the rod.
- Lifts from the seat: The rudder lift line runs to the cockpit, so the blade comes up for shallow water and launches without getting out.
- Complete kit: Rudder, rudder bracket, aluminum footbrace rails, steering cables, copper crimps, heat shrink tubing, rudder lift line, bungee, thread locker and mounting hardware.
- Bolts to the factory points: The 120 PRO is built to take this kit, so the install uses mounting locations already in the hull.
- Works without a motor: You can run the rudder on a paddled 120 PRO for better tracking in wind.
Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO Rudder Kit Questions, Answered
Which kayaks does this rudder kit fit?
The Sportsman 120 PRO only. It does not fit the Sportsman 120, the Sportsman PDL 120 PRO, or any other Sportsman. Check the model name on your hull before ordering.
Do I need a trolling motor to use it?
No. The rudder installs and works on a paddled 120 PRO, where it helps the boat track in wind and current. It pays off most with a bow-mount motor, because that is when the boat most wants to wander.
How do I steer it?
With your feet. The kit swaps the standard footbraces for sliding steering rails, so pushing one side turns the rudder. Both hands stay on the rod.
Does the rudder lift out of the water?
Yes. A lift line runs back to the cockpit so you can raise and lower the blade from the seat. Raise it in shallow water, over gravel bars, and before you pull the boat up the ramp.
Will this steer a stern-mounted motor?
No. For foot-controlled steering on a stern motor you want the Old Town Sportsman 120 PRO Footbrace Steering Kit. This rudder kit is a rudder, steered by your feet, independent of the motor.
Which trolling motors does Old Town recommend with it?
Old Town points to the Minn Kota Kayak Terrova and Riptide Kayak Terrova. Both mount to the four-hole insert already in the 120 PRO's bow.
Are steering cables in the box?
Yes. This kit includes the steering cables along with the crimps, heat shrink and hardware. The Footbrace Steering Kit does not include cables, which is a common mix-up between the two.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. Old Town publishes install instructions for this kit and the 120 PRO is drilled and routed for it from the factory. Plan on an afternoon and a basic hand tool set. Call us at (615) 696-7887 if you want to talk through it before you start.
